29th March 2004 - James: Quickie

I was going to write a regular humorous type article, but I noticed a testimonial that I received saying something like "How can someone who watches so many movies rate Vanilla Sky?". So anyway, sorry this is like an actual serious article...Just for you George.

Explaining Vanilla Sky: Why It's The Most Under-Rated Movie Ever

25th March 2004 - James: A Note To All The Film-Makers Out There

Well, you can all pretty much forget about winning an Oscar for best picture this year. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is pretty much one of the best movies I've ever seen, and with the exception of the impending big three war epics - Troy (Pitt, Bloom, Bana), Alexander (Farrel, Jolie, Hopkins) and the other so far untitled Alexander Movie (DiCaprio) - The academy seems to love war movies, barring a repeat of poster year 1999, where so many awesome movies came out all together (American Beauty, Fight Club, Magnolia etc), I highly doubt any movie will beat Eternal for the award.

Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) is without a doubt the weirdest fucker in the world, but you have to admit, it borders on genius when you look at his movies.

But it's just such a fucking awesome movie. Thanks Charlie, now the rest of you can hold back your movie's releases for next year. And we can bask in the combined glory of Kaufman, Jim Carrey, Elijah Wood, Kirsten Dunst and even (surprisingly) Kate Winslet.

The other day I was out at about five in the morning, a little high on alcohol with two friends, and I absent-mindedly said "Karma, karma, karma, karma Chameleon", then at exactly the same time, one of them said "Red, gold and green", the other said "She's dead and gone" and I said "They come and go"... It was so surreal, I'm convinced that it means something.

Like, the one who said "She's dead and gone" is really sadistic and murderous, or the guy who said "Red, gold and green" is just, well, fruity.

What do you think? Oh and Ashley Judd's new movie came out.

I hate Ashley Judd. She looks like the lovechild of Tom and Jerry and has the acting ability of a drunken Freddie Prinze Jr. And that's really saying something. I was watching TV the other day and happened to catch on some random talk-show where she talked about her "choosing roles to expand her acting range", "picking different types of scripts" and such.

Here's the blerb on her new movie:

With the help of an un-conventional police commissioner, a troubled detective fights an up-hill battle to condemn a serial killer.

Sounds like shit if you ask me. But hey, that's not the important thing is it? It's just about expand acting range and be able to play different types of characters. Good on you Ashley.

Ashley Judd's previous movies:

High Crimes

With the help of an un-conventional lawyer, a troubled wife/lawyer fights an up-hill battle to defend her supposedly guilty husband from a death-sentence.

Double Jeopardy

With the help of an un-conventional parole officer, a troubled wife fights an up-hill battle against her husband.

Kiss The Girls

With the help of an un-conventional detective, a troubled doctor fights an up-hill battle to bring two serial killers under arrest.

Talk about acting range.
