Louis Interviews a Doctor for Suckball

Firstly, I would like to mention that, if the data I put up isn't accurate, it is not the Doctor's fault. The fault would be mine as I probably misinterpreted something wrong or missed out some crucial detail. With that out of the way, lets get on with it.

Organ Harvesting

Organ harvesting is exactly what it sounds like, harvesting for organs. As disgusting as it sounds, it inevitably saves lives or makes someone's life livable again. Nevertheless, the first time it was mentioned to me, I pictured someone pulling up hearts off the ground like turnips.

What happens is, when an organ donor/someone who is brain dead/has no chance of survival is withering away on a hospital bed, a special transplant team is gathered to remove useable organs from the body.

These teams are very highly specialized, a heart remover, kidney etc. A specialized doctor for every useable organ, including the cornea (This grossed me out the most. I wonder how they remove the eyes. They would inevitably have to gouge it out don't they?)

The cool bit

Time is a very big factor in organ harvesting. Organs have a very short downtime and if a single organ goes to waste, that could potentially be another life lost elsewhere. This emphasizes the urgency to gather these doctors from all over the place to get to the hospital as soon as humanly possible.

The transplant team have a pilot on call. It's like having your own driver, only you get upgraded from land to air travel. The job of the pilot is to organize the pickup of each doctor and to get them to the hospital quickly. This benefit alone should be enough to encourage any living person to become a doctor, your own fucking pilot.

There's more.

Supposedly, land travel is very dramatic too. Limousines traveling at more than 100mph through traffic, police escorts, sirens, the works! As I mentioned before, it is imperative to get these doctors to the hospital as quickly as possible. Not only is it cool, it is probably a heck load of fun too.

The disgusting bit

After all the drama is over, the doctors are all now in the Operating Theatre. The person is still alive and is attached to a ventilator (of course they have to be alive, the organs need to be fresh)

There will be a point where they need to turn OFF the ventilator (done by the anesthetist) in order to saw open the chest. This is to make sure the doctors do not cut the lungs while opening the chest up.

So the doctors are switching around, each taking the organs they have been trained to do (The body must be alive throughout this whole process). Then finally, the anesthetist will be called again (2 hours into the operation) to turn off the ventilator permanently. This is to enable the doctors to remove the heart, and this is when the body is officially dead.

Added Fun : The heart is removed from the body beating. It will then be preserved and it stops beating. When it is inserted into another body, the doctor would "tap" the heart in order to "wake it up"

The whole process usually takes up to 5 grueling hours. Remember, the body will be alive for the first 2 hours.

I hope you had fun.
